Wands for Wildlife

March 14, 2019

If you’d like to feel more altruistic about your beauty purchases, here’s a way to recycle your mascara wands that will have you feeling all warm and fuzzy.

Wands for Wildlife is a fantastic organization that uses old mascara wands to remove fly larva and eggs from the fur of wild animals.

If you’re inspired by the great work they do, food, supplies and funds are also needed to care for and treat the animals in the Appalachian Wild Urgent Care. Check the Wishlist and make a donation online. Please note that I have not interacted with or vetted this organization, so please research it for yourself before donating!

They also offer some tips on cleaning your wand before mailing: Wash wands in warm soapy water to remove residual mascara. Mail form, old wands & donations to: P.O. Box 1211, Skyland, NC 28776. I’ve heard that Castile soap is the purest soap to clean wands with before using on wildlife.
